The exhibition Anti-Surveillance Fashion” brings together projects and products that resist surveillance in public space. Those who wear these fashions disappear into the digital background noise. Fashion deals with appearance in two ways: How does one walk the fine line between fashion avant-garde and digital invisibility? How do you dress so that you are perceived by machines in one way and by people in another? This is about more than just fashion: computer-assisted video surveillance in public spaces is a hot topic. The topic is currently in the news and media on an almost daily basis — from the planned expansion of video surveillance at train stations by the SBB to the operation of video cameras without a permit in bicycle stations in the city of Bern.

The current privacy regulations in Switzerland date back to 1992, and many aspects surrounding the use of increasingly precise computer vision” software are simply not regulated. In this sense, Anti-Surveillance Fashion” shows only individual attitudes towards a question to which a collective social answer must be found.

The exhibition ranges from speculative fashion prototypes to products that can be bought off the rack to DIY knitting patterns for the individualized Dazzle sweater. The exhibition is complemented by photographic and artistic contributions.
