Born in Munich, Germany, Alexander Ott received his diploma from the University of Applied Arts, Vienna, where he studied architecture at the Studio Prix. Alexander joined Coop Himmelb(l)au in 2003, rising from a design architect to his current leadership role as a partner and design director in 2020. In this position, Alexander is mainly concerned with the formal performance of Coop Himmelb(l)au. He oversees and bears responsibilities for developing the design profile of the office, ensuring the quality of the competition proposals and adherence to architectural standards in the subsequent planning. He is active for projects throughout Europe and Asia. As design architect, Alexander held key roles on the Dalian Conference Center, China, as well as in Azerbaijan, for the Baku Convention Center and the Central Bank of Azerbaijan. As part of this activity, he has acquired a wide range of international experience, including expertise in cultural buildings, offices, housing projects and master planning. Alexander taught as an assistant professor at Studio 3 and had a lectureship at Studio 4, University of Innsbruck, Austria.
