Born in Graz, Austria, Markus Prossnigg graduated from the Technical University of Graz. He also studied at the Ecole d’architecture de Montpellier in France and worked from 1997 to 2002 at the office of Arsène-Henry & Triaud in Bordeaux, France, as a project architect responsible for many housing and mixed-use projects. Markus joined Coop Himmelb(l)au in 2002. As a project partner, he was responsible for the Musée des Confluences in Lyon, France, and the Museum for Contemporary Art and Planning Exhibition (MOCAPE) in Shenzhen, China. During the past years, he has mainly been active on projects and competitions in France, China and Russia, including the Dawang Mountain Resort in Changsha, China, the New Science and Technology Museum in Xingtai, China, the Museum and Theater Complex in Kemerovo, Russia, and the SCA Arena Sports and Concert Complex in St. Petersburg, Russia.
In 2015, Markus became managing partner of Coop Himmelb(l)au. In this role, he is responsible for the overall management, supervision and delivery of key projects. Markus has cultivated a wide spectrum of international experience and comprehends the requirements and specifics of the various global building markets. He oversees the strategic and business development of Coop Himmelb(l)au and is responsible for setting up the projects from the early stages of the corresponding procedures. Markus accompanies the projects during all planning and execution phases and acts as the main contact for clients as well as within the consultant team regarding primary management and design issues. In this context, his goal is to coordinate the interfaces between all involved partners and through his vast experience he is an essential part of achieving the best architectural quality for our buildings
